How do I do
a test?
With the test strip still in its packet, insert the contact
bars into the test port of your monitor. Make sure that the contact
bars are facing upward. Push the test strip in until it stops. The
monitor turns on by itself. The following sequence appears in the
display window: 88.8,CAL, the three-character calibration code and
then rdY. Remove the test strip packet. You may use the packet later
to discard the used test strip. Make sure the calibration code displayed
on the monitor matched the calibration code on the calibrator and
the test strip insert sheet for the test strips being used. Your
monitor is now ready (rdY) for you to apply a drop of blood to the
target area of the test strip. The test will start automatically
when the sample is detected. Do not press the button. The countdown
begins and your blood glucose result is displayed in a few seconds.

How do I open a test strip? Why do you use foil pouches on strips?
Open a test strip by holding the test strip vertically and grasping at
the notch. Tear downward and diagonally to expose the contact bars of
the test strip. Grasp the contact bars and pull the test strip halfway
out of the packet. Save the test strip packet for disposal of the used
test strip. Each test strip is sealed in an individual foil packet to
protect it from air and moisture. In addition to ensuring accuracy of
glucose monitoring, it provides a convenient alternative to carrying a
vial of strips.

Why is the meter reading HI or LO?
If the meter displays "HI", the blood glucose value may be above 600
mg/dL or 33.3 mmol/L. It is suggested that you test again with a new strip
to confirm the result. If the meter displays "LO", the blood glucose value
may be below 20 mg/dL or 1.1 mmol/L. Check that the target area
of the test strip was completely filled with the blood drop. It is suggested
that you repeat the test with a new test strip to confirm the
result. Follow your healthcare professional's instructions.
[Back to top] What are Control Solutions for? How do I get control solution?
ReliOn ® Glucose Controls Solutions are used to test the performance
or your monitor and test strips. They are not necessary to conduct a test.
ReliOn ® Glucose Control Solutions can be obtained through ReliOn ® customer

[Back to top] What does CK KE mean?
This message appears when a blood glucose result is 300 mg/dL (16.7 mmol/L)
or higher. The display alternates between CK, KE and the blood glucose
result. It is suggested that you repeat the test with a new test strip
to confirm the result. Follow your healthcare professional's instructions.
[Back to top] How do I recall my last reading?
Press and hold the button
firmly until "Recall" appears in the display
window. Immediately release the button. The most recent result
will appear in the display window. To recall the next glucose result,
press and release the button again. Continue this procedure to obtain
the remaining results stored in your monitor's memory. Once you have scrolled
through all of the results, press the button to turn off the monitor.
The monitor automatically turns off after one minute.

your two-week average. Repeat to see your four-week average.
[Back to top] When do I replace the battery?
The battery life of your
meter is approximately 4,000 glucose tests. It is time to change your
batteries when you see a message that says "Batteries".
See your instruction booklet for the correct way to replace the
batteries.
[Back to top] Why aren't there strips in the meter package?
We wanted the meter to be as affordable as possible so that more people
could afford to buy meters to test their glucose. By excluding strips
from the monitor kit, we are able to better manage our inventories and
pass the cost savings on to the consumer.

[Back to top] What would cause my blood glucose readings to vary from one test
to another, even though I feel fine?
Normally, your body's rate of metabolism changes constantly throughout
the day, and the level of blood sugar changes with it. For people with
diabetes, their blood glucose level usually stays within a constant range,
but does not remain the same all of the time. It is important for people
with diabetes to understand that their blood sugars can change quickly
for different reasons such as; the amount and type of food eaten, exercise,
illness, medications, etc. People with diabetes should visit their physician
regularly to identify their best blood glucose target range and to adjust
their diabetes management as necessary.
[Back to top] How can I make it easier to get a drop of blood?
Your
new ReliOn® Ultima monitor is designed to test your blood glucose
using a very small blood drop. Even so, some people find it challenging
to acquire a blood drop. Here are some tips to help make it easier:
- Wash your hands with warm water, and rub them together to warm them
up.
- Gently massage your hand and finger, moving from your wrist
to below the spot you will lance (but do not squeeze directly
on the spot you will lance)
- When lancing, press your lancing
device firmly against the side of your fingertip
- After lancing,
massage your finger gently towards the spot you just lanced
(but do not squeeze too hard)
- If you are still having difficulty
getting an adequate blood drop, call the ReliOn® Customer Care line,
toll-free, 1.800.992.3612 for more advice.
